The Norwalk Youth Council addresses issues that are of concern to most of Norwalk 's middle and high school students, provide outreach to peers and other youth programs, be a catalyst for youth leadership opportunities and public speaking engagements, and participate in positive youth development workshops. Through organized dialogue, the youth discovered that most of their concerns are focused on the issues surrounding youth violence, alcohol and substance abuse, teen pregnancy and sexuality, tobacco, gambling, underage drinking, and providing safe and satisfying activities for youth. Working with the Community Prevention Task Force and other appropriate entities, the council will provide youth driven programming and other initiatives to the community, as well as participate in community planning and policy making. |
