THE COMMUNITY PREVENTION TASK FORCE (CPTF)

The Community Prevention Task Force, a program of the Human Services Council, provides programs through a collaborative effort to fill community needs. Directed by a comprehensive needs assessment, the Task Force designs and implements action plans, which promote public awareness of important issues. The Community Prevention Task Force identifies service needs and gaps; maintains efforts to reduce the prevalence and incidence of alcohol and other substance abuse; creates a favorable climate for prevention and intervention; and provides citywide networking and information sharing through coordination of services.

The Norwalk Youth Council addresses issues that are of concern to most of Norwalk 's middle and high school students, provide outreach to peers and other youth programs, be a catalyst for youth leadership opportunities and public speaking engagements, and participate in positive youth development workshops.  Through organized dialogue, the youth discovered that most of their concerns are focused on the issues surrounding youth violence, alcohol and substance abuse, teen pregnancy and sexuality, tobacco, gambling, underage drinking, and providing safe and satisfying activities for youth.  Working with the Community Prevention Task Force and other appropriate entities, the council will provide youth driven programming and other initiatives to the community, as well as participate in community planning and policy making.
